Put Your Small Change to Use

Small change— we all have it but most of the time we don’t even use it.  It goes into a dusty ol’ jar on the shelf, or deep into the couch along with the errant crumbs and who knows what else.  Maybe if it’s lucky, it will be used to buy a coffee on that Monday when a caffeine boost is really needed.  But it doesn’t have to have such a pitiful demise.

Your small change can make a big difference.  It can go towards protecting the South Okanagan-Similkameen, an extraordinarily breathtaking landscape that is sadly one of Canada’s most endangered places.

With golden grasses, enormous skies and enough wildflowers to drop your jaw, the South Okanagan-Similkameen is a landscape that you instantly fall in love with.  Sadly, it is being critically threatened.  Human development is quickly overtaking this extremely fragile ecosystem.  There are already 57 species on the red-listed at-risk-species and this list will keep growing unless something is done fast.

CPAWS-BC’s urgent call for immediate protection of the treasured grasslands in the South Okanagan-Similkameen was heard by the Small Change Fund, an extraordinary organization that brings together thousands of Canadians to support grassroots environmental issues that are in desperate need of help.

If everyone makes a small donation of just $5 or $10 it will make an extraordinary difference-- it will save the South Okanagan-Similkameen.

How will CPAWS go about protecting the South Okanagan-Similkameen?

It is a good question and we are glad you asked! CPAWS is working hard to safeguard the South Okanagan-Similkameen by advocating for the establishment of a national park because in Canada, a national park provides the highest level of habitat protection.  If a national park is established, we know that the beauty of the South Okanagan-Similkameen and the well-being of its species will be protected for generations to come.  For a more in-depth explanation of what your donation will be used for, click here.
