The Life Aquatic: Journey to the Sea of Glass

Sing with us!

“Oh, we all live in a small, white, three-man Aquarius submarine…
… a small, white, three-man, Aquarius submarine….
… a small, white, three-man, Aquarius submarine

Oh we all live in a…”

Okay, the lyrics don’t work but you get the jist.

It’s exciting times here in the CPAWS-BC office as we are prepping for our once-in-a-lifetime upcoming submarine dive event and “Making Waves” our 50th Anniversary Gala!

On October 15th and 16th, in partnership with Nuytco Research Ltd., we will be hosting a series of 6 submarine dives off the coast of Vancouver, in Howe Sound.   The dives will take scientists, celebrities, high profile Canadians, and journalists to the bottom of Howe Sound.

Our mission is to observe an ancient and extremely rare animal, an animal that lives so deep we need a submarine to find it.

No, not the jaguar shark, we are diving deep to discover BC’s hidden treasure…

The glass sponge reefs.

The expeditions will allow scientists to get a first hand look at the health and condition of the reefs off the coast of Vancouver, information which will help us protect these globally unique reefs found right in our own ocean backyard.

So, the office is abuzz with invitations to VIPs, media releases, emails to scientists, and of course the launch of our competition, which is the really exciting part.

We are offering you the opportunity to join the submarine expeditions!  To enter the draw you need to be a legal resident of Canada and 19 years or over, all you need to do is:
1) Fill out the online entry form and tell us why you think the oceans need to be protected
2) Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and share the event

The winner will be selected at random and will be notified by email, the competition closes September 30th.

So it’s time to dust off the red toque, dig out your Yellow Submarine record, submit your entry, and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime!
