Youth in Smithers host a successful Get Outside BC event!

Get Outside BC participants Simon, Noel, Isabelle, Jack (pictured left to right)  hosted a successful event called Get Outside with Nature & Art in Smithers, B.C on Sepember 13th. It was a fun afternoon of art activities and games at Riverside Recreational Park. The event was organized by an ambitious group of youth who are starting an outdoor movement through Get Outside BC, a program aimed at creating a network of young, natural leaders. The local youth who came out their event participated in several activities, such as art projects, a treasure hunt, and other fun-filled games hosted by the Get Outside BC youth leaders.

During our event, we had help from a couple parents and adults, but we mostly ran it ourselves. In total we had 20 kids participate in our event. We divide the youth into two groups: one was for younger participants and the other was for the older participants. Isabelle and Jack led the younger group while Noel and Simon led the older group. Both groups participated in a treasure hunt along a trail, but at separate times. After the treasure hunt, we had an art contest with the items from the treasure hunt and a snack. The art contest had prizes for first and second place. After the snacks, the older group played games for the rest of the day, while the younger group did art activities.
