What is the MEC Big Wild Challenge?
This summer, thousands of Canadians will are heading into the wilderness for the MEC Big Wild Challenge to raise funds for conservation. On the Island, wilderness-lovers are invited to lace-up and challenge themselves in a 12km or 21km trail run along the rugged Coast Trail in East Sooke Regional Park on Sunday, August 10th. This is an opportunity to explore what the West Coast has to offer by navigating through technical root systems, big wild spaces, and breathtaking vistas. Afterwards, there will be a celebration in the park with games, yoga, and a barbeque. All of the funds raised through the MEC Big Wild Challenge will go to CPAWS to protect Canada’s at-risk wilderness. Mountain Equipment Co-op will match every dollar raised, doubling our impact on protecting Canadian wilderness.
British Columbia has the world’s largest intact coastal temperate rainforest, boasts an impressive coastline that is over 25,000 km long and is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife. Yet 85% of our province’s wilderness is unprotected. By supporting or running the MEC Big Wild Challenge you are making a difference to the future of our amazing wild places!
