Press Release
July 11, 2006
July is Parks Month!
July is Parks Month and CPAWS is invites you to celebrate all 31 days with hikes and interpretive walks, slide shows, displays and a province-wide scavenger hunt.
There are many ways to celebrate this July. Download a scavenger hunt list from www.julyisparksmonth.ca and take your friends or family to a local park to check off what you can find. The winning team gets an MEC shopping spree and other fun prizes. Join an interpretive walk or hike in a nearby park - or partner with CPAWS and volunteer to lead one! Join a work party to remove invasive weeds from a park. Or grab a book and spend an afternoon in your favourite nature getaway.
BC's parks protect special landscapes and natural features. They conserve watersheds that filter our water and our air. They ensure BC's wildlife, including spirit bears, big horn sheep, marmots, and tiger salamanders, will always have a home. They provide us with opportunities to get active, have a healthy lifestyle, and enjoy the great outdoors in sustainable ways.
In addition to conserving natural environments that provide vital ecological services for our cities and towns and habitat for all BC's creatures, our municipal, regional, provincial, and national parks provide rest, relaxation and adventure plus economic growth for our province. Explore your parks this July. Find out more and share your favourite park memories at www.julyisparksmonth.ca.
