Artvocacy 2026

Land & Fresh Water Spotlight

Art. Nature. Advocacy.

About the program:

Artvocacy arrives at a critical moment, as communities face rapid ecological and social change alongside shifting political landscapes. The program was created as a way to navigate this complexity—by calling on the inner artist and using creativity as a pathway to connection, care, dialogue, and collective action.

Rooted in the Okanagan, home to some of Canada’s most endangered ecosystems, including imperilled grasslands, Artvocacy invites emerging and community-based artists to explore their relationship to land, water, identity, and place through creative practice. The program fosters belonging and deepens awareness of local conservation issues, including Indigenous-led stewardship and Canada and BC’s commitment to protect 30% of lands and waters by 2030.

Who’s involved?

Artvocacy brings together artists, Indigenous knowledge holders, and community members through workshops, mentorship, and public showcases. The program emphasizes process over polish, valuing authenticity, reflection, experimentation, and shared learning.

At its core, Artvocacy bridges inner creative practice with outward civic engagement. Participants are supported to develop work grounded in place and meaning, while building the confidence, skills, and understanding needed to share their voice publicly and engage their communities.
