The federal government has opened the door to dismantling the oil tanker ban, a move that puts the Pacific North Coast, wildlife, and communities at risk.
Coastal waters are our home and heritage — not industrial highways.
The Oil Tanker Moratorium Act is a cornerstone of Canada’s Ocean Protection Plan and a national promise to defend the north Pacific from marine disaster.
“Poking holes in the tanker ban would recklessly expose coastal communities, food systems and fisheries, and ecosystems to catastrophic risk,” says Sarah McNeil, CPAWS-BC Executive Director.
Coastal First Nations and The Province of British Columbia have already taken a stand, reaffirming their shared commitment to safeguard these waters through the North Coast Protection Declaration.
