The South Okanagan-Similkameen is home to some of Canada’s most endangered grasslands and at least 246 species at risk. For more than two decades, a National Park Reserve has been proposed here to protect these fragile ecosystems, honour Indigenous stewardship, and safeguard wildlife from habitat loss and degradation.
Earlier this year, over 1,300 people voiced their support for this park. Nine months later, an establishment agreement still hasn’t been finalized. With species at risk in the spotlight, this region is a clear example of why permanent habitat protection can’t wait.
A National Park Reserve would protect biodiversity, boost local tourism, and provide more boots on the ground to manage threats like wildfires and illegal activity. Add your voice today to urge the federal and provincial governments, together with the syilx/Okanagan Nation, to immediately finalize the agreement and protect this unique landscape.
